THE LATEST DADAISTE For nearly one decade, Olivier Blanckart has been making objects, carrying out performances, that the experts of the artistic world (inspectors of creations, curators of museums, galerists)considered as best with suspicion, at worst with fright.

It was a just comeback of the things. His "Actions" was making play with all the registers of confusion. Blanckart has made appearances as a homeless, at the entrance into art exibitions on varnishings days. He was seen burning the effigy of a Buddhist bonze in public place, clowning in a festival of contemporary art.

The objects he has created were shaped out of materials (adhesive tape, cardboard boxes...)which openly aimed at making them vulgar. The constant Blanckart's love for the most various forms of anti-art would be enough to make him the latest Dadaiste. Of course, not of any Dadaism! Not in any case the one that the regulating effort of history knew how to make "aesthetic".

Not this very neat dadaism the tranformation of the art of the Twentieth century into a formal garden did not save. the formalism, this gardener with methodical shears, has revealed broad perspectives from the bush of modern art. It has set Hans Arp's and Kurt Schwitters's collages, Gerhard Richter's paintings.

Marcel Janco's masks between Cubism and Constructivism, along it alleys at the end of which the clear- shaped monument of abstraction is guessed. The "Modern Effort" has turned over the nihilism of Dada in a efficient energy. Blanckart's art is partly nourished on the romantic fiction of an intransigent Dadaism, irreducible to any idea of effectiveness.

Sometimes he also yields to the requirements of time. Then Blanckart dreams to put his art at the service of noble causes. At once Richard Huelsenbeck's godsends warn him against affectedness of the Politically Correct.
